They Never Touch

They Never Touch

The moon
circles the earth
but they
never touch.

The distance varies,
and the light drifts,
but they never
see their relevance
directly.

Retroflection
invades their calm,
but their radiance
never bonds
their daylight lives.

The earth
stands
in evening
in the doorway
aperture
of the howling
midnight,

but the moon
only saunters
her way
from sky
to sky,
unawakened
by any attentions.
