Religious freedom
Freedom to express one’s belief
Having the right to remain silent
Acknowledgment of varying faiths
One nation under God
Whose god exactly?
Benefits of the majority
Dystopia of minorities
Pick up a Bible
And a dictionary
Read between the lines
Of Deuteronomy

Novice Supplication
It used to be the case, that come what may,
a vodka coke at six, to start the day.
It doesn’t take a seer or genius
to figure out descent that followed this.
The alcohol, a habit I now shun
then others which I used to count as fun
I’ve cast aside for better or for worse –
one thing for sure – this doesn’t hurt my purse.
But it is traits of mind I need to change
if I with honesty wish rearrange
this mind that’s me, this personality,
that is the cause of its own fallacy.
Grant me the strength to see where I’ve gone wrong,
humility...

Patient's Protest
I have a problem.
Let us start with that.
A severe psychiatric disability.
I don’t particularly wish to share too much…
but…
Care in the Community…
I prefer society to hospital,
although of both I do not know
which prefers me least.
If only the tablets and injections…
would, so to speak…
have desired effect…
I’ve tried my own solutions,
treating fire with fire,
balanced trick of alchemy.
But then some years ago and still…
the haloperidol…
straitjacket of psychiatry…

Invisible Voices
Beginning from the ending
What do you see
Fate predetermined
Of God or my humanity
If love does not insist on its own way
The sovereign constrains self to give free will
Choosing between the darkness or the light of an eternal day
Capable we are of evil for the sake of something real
Authenticating love unbound to programmed affection
Salvation or damnation, acceptance or rejection
Self fulfilling prophecy takes shape in the form of what we believe
Whether we rise or plummet
The hope or anchor of the ways we have or...

Rose Colored Depravity
I can’t see the thorns in the shape of the bloom
When demons masquerade in beauty
Enchantment, the blind optimism
Count down to ultimatum confessions
We are lulled to sleep in the throes of comfort
Wake up to see the reality
Our smiles sell our hopes like there’s substance to them
Chasing all the wrong things
Pleasures and social prestige
Set the stage
Everything is routine
In circles we breathe like we’re here to stay
Bought on the material and failing to see the cost
How far will we stray away from true...

Stranger
Inquiry of questions interrogations in my head
Yesterday a revolving door in paradox of philosophical repose
For all the things I wish I never said
The mystery of the history of all the things that no one knows
I am a stranger to myself gradually learning as I go
Who I am in this experience to discover why
Every choice I make is another revelation of getting to know
Self, in all the tangles unraveling, until the day I die
Mystery in the mirror, mirror
How do I believe the best
When so much of what I’ve done doesn’t square
When...

Scriptural Haikus
The Whole Lump:
A little leaven
Saturated unity
Malignant hot air
Promised Land:
After forty years
Wandering the wilderness
Righteous judgment
Leaving Egypt:
Moses and Aaron
Exodus deliverance
Journey Eternal
Abomination of Desolation:
Laodicea
Prophesied apostasy
Son of perdition
Population Ancestors:
God of Abraham
Seed as countless as the stars
Isaac and Ishmael

Skin Deep
Spelling out the nature of this that I despise
The stench of beauty exploited that tempts the beholders eyes
Raunchy from the innocence of what first was intended
Perversity idolatry, eroticism from purity descended
Bathing in the filth of our bodies exposed
Immodest in the will to sell
Profits at an all time high undisclosed
As pleasures pave way to usher them to hell
Identity stolen by the politics of domesticated culture
Immorality circling dead spirits like a bloodthirsty vulture
Youth siphoned through the corruption of...

Unseen
Trek onward to overcome the fear
When it grates my flesh but feeds my spirit all the things I yearn to hear
Truths of grace breaking through
Undeserving yet still I hope in the invisible You
Debts cry to control
Lay claims to the will to reposes by default, my soul
With interests built up, the entitlement of the betrayed
Taken apart, dissect the heart, when my actions are filleted
You’ve every right to reject but still you love when I am unlovely
Fear cast out of perfect affections lavished upon

Double Cross
Disturb my fragile sensibility
Disrupt the expectations of my wanting
When I chase temporal things to a fault
I fall pray in my humility to the Holy Ghost haunting
Answering the warning signs with replies of faith imbued by the call
What if there is something to it
When we dismiss the claims for broken records on repeat
Discerning truth amid the chaos of another’s source of vain conceit
The word is alive and I’m dead to rights
When I live subject to something divine
Shadows cast of unseen lights
The end doesn’t answer to my...

rest day
Sunday is the day of rest for most people
except for cooks, servers, and housewives
They have Mondays
that day hasn't got many customers
they can warm up, Sunday's leftovers
it is said ennui is the day when the brain rest
that is why the slamming of car doors
is frowned upon.
I know of a man when building a home, used
gravestones as building material
He stayed in the house one night
could not stand
the whispering voice let me out of here
it was all a mistake
Moved into the barn shared...

Tares
Duplicating digital journals to distribute another part of me
Auctioning off to bids for the worth of some semblance of legacy
Lest all I live for is just subject to be deleted
Waiting for my dreams to pay the bills as I’m gradually depleted
Time bought on the will of my debt to survive
Financing the means of breathing
Another cog in the machine
Killing myself to come alive
When the cost of everything is blood, I just keep on bleeding
In this material world of the consumerism fiend
Words in the tares sprout up to seed...
