The Fiddler
A flock of sailing fiddlers fly
Down flowing fountain in the sky
Seven-fold they fair my eye
As life so faintly passes by
Seven-fold the fearless fliers
Finger through the fiery breeze,
Symphonic plumage ever whiter
Feathered phantoms through the trees
Flying, flying, never dying
To each, the cool breeze pacifying
Fearless flying flocks of yore
Hear echoes off a fading shore
And tumble down as raindrops pour
Fearlessly flying never more.
Down flowing fountain in the sky
Seven-fold they fair my eye
As life so faintly passes by
Seven-fold the fearless fliers
Finger through the fiery breeze,
Symphonic plumage ever whiter
Feathered phantoms through the trees
Flying, flying, never dying
To each, the cool breeze pacifying
Fearless flying flocks of yore
Hear echoes off a fading shore
And tumble down as raindrops pour
Fearlessly flying never more.

The Golden Rule
A tenant of most religions…is the Golden Rule
Recently, a poetess made a nice comment on my Mother’s Day poem. She made reference to honoring Mother Nature; of which the comment struck me as interesting. It made me to think of Earth Day which is celebrated on April 22 each year. Which in turn, took me down a path of convoluted thought, rather broad in perception and introspective. I stumbled across a quote attributed to Chief Dan George -“We are as much alive as we keep the Earth alive.” Thus, bringing me back full circle to where I began. It is there, with the realization of my...

Taken for granted?
Taken for granted?
As you stand and hold your trowel
Comes weariness, released in moans
She whispers sweet in a greener vowels
Rest a while and tasks postpone
A motherhood in verdant dance
The seasons rituals turn, lion to lamb
Harmony of cadence in broad enhance
In forest lush or deserts barren sands
She reaches out to heal in quiet grace
Mental strife, all left behind
Calms life’s frantic pace and find solace
In natures balm be intertwined
A matriarch with womb replete
Germ not chaff, a gift...

what the f*ck are we doing to insects
can’t remember when I last saw
a wasp, I thought, sitting outside the pub eating lunch in the past
was always accompanied by wasps ..

Arrival of Summer
The summer comes steadily forward over lush fields
Coming my way like a guaranteed car crash
The summer rises in the sky like an incinerating beast
Breeding sleepless nights, sweat and madness
I sit in my hole and await the collision

Breeding sleepless nights, sweat and madness
I sit in my hole and await the collision

Peace is
Peace
is a fastidious beast,
it's limbs, long and sinewed
are blush pink and pale white,
crawling across the antiquated nature
of green. I've been above it before -
as it acts
like salicylic acid upon the skins of time,
the dead shed,
crumbling as compost to grow something again,
and the body relinquishing
without fight or fawning.
There's nothing to fawn to
with peace,
nothing too overstretched or burrowing to make
for less than gentlest endeavors.
I watch the Spring spring on a new,
all the...

Veiled Beauty
It's hardly seen by those who hurry past,
Oblivious to the wonders that outlast,
Beneath the layers of the forest floor,
Where secrets lie, awaiting to explore.
It’s barely held in reverence, I tell,
Except by hearts that with nature's pulse dwell,
They march with care upon the mossy ground,
Where the earth's song can be found.
I wager it could scarce maintain its form,
Against the winds that rage, against the storm,
Beneath the feet of those who pass it by,
Their gaze averted, to the earth they spy.
But...

The Missing Link
The tree and the bird
the bee and the flower
the sun and the moon
the heat and the shower
The silence and the sound
the ear and the music
the heart and the feeling
the brain and the thinking
The wild and the wise
The Human and Nature
the wild is inborn
the wise is artificial
From the wild comes the rule
Into the wise mind instilled
While the city is the filter
The rules then, are broken
Nature's facts disfigured
all the trees became timber
the animals...

Dad's Mesquite
golden light filtered through
feathery green leaves.
gnarled rough brown bark reaches toward cotton clouds.
breeze gently sways nest on highest branch.
jet-black grackle perched on drooping mistletoe
advising, perhaps admonishing.
tree’s penumbra shields brightly colored hammock,
cradle for snoring hairless primate.

Beyond the Dial
When you look at their faces you can see something appealing
Under the crystal the hands that mark time just tick away
For whatever aesthetics or complications you may be seeking
It’s the inner workings that matter most each and every day
Beneath the surface you can witness a marvel of engineering
From balance wheels and rotors to jewels and gear trains
All this inside of a barrel where you can see a mainspring
I guess you can say all these tiny parts are the brains
Every single component is important for a timepiece to work
Imagined,...

Mata Furry
On a Spring day,
five years ago,
I heard a loud knocking at my front door.
Approaching to answer,
I heard a faint scratching.
First checking the peep hole,
I saw not a soul.
Then the bell rang.
Carefully, with trepidation,
I opened to see
a pure white bunny staring up at me.
Irresistibly adorable I let the little guy in.
Barely crossing our threshold,
the creature hopped
to our den
as if on a mission.
I said, “well aren't you bold” and...
